Posted by justinwarner1986 on 31st October 2009

I want my hair to have a ton of hairspray in it so my hair is standing up in different directions…but maybe with a twist of some kind.. also I have very thick long hair :)
Thanks so much, fyi for halloween I am going to be an ‘accident victim’ all bandaged up with a white shirt that has blood on it with tire marks over the shirt and fake foot dangling off my ancle….last but not least, I need some and crazy hair. My boyfriend said he’ll help me style it so I can save the money I would have spent at a salon for just a style. So I am definately having him do it but I need photos…know of any sites? Could you find me a link? Im having no luck on google. Thanks :)

How ‘Paranormal Activity’ became the most profitable movie ever

Posted by justinwarner1986 on 30th October 2009

30.10.09

If “Paranormal Activity” the ultra-low-budget, documentary-style horror flick that surprised box-office watchers by coming in No. 1 this past weekend, were a stock, it would be a Google share times 675.

First-time director Oren Peli spent just $15,000 making the film, which has so far grossed more than $65 million in the US and Canada. That’s a record-breaking rate of return of more than 433,000 percent.

The Wrap’s Daniel Frankel crunches the numbers , noting that the the previous record holder, “The Blair Witch Project,” cost $60,000 to produce and garnered a 414,000 percent return on investment. By comparison, “ET: The Extra-Terrestrial” returned a measly 7,541 percent return.

So how did Paramount, which distributed the film, manage to get such an astounding bang for their buck?

Step 1: Use the Interblags

The movie’s Facebook page has over 125,000 fans. Not too shabby, but it pales in comparison to the more than one million fans flocking to “ Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen .” “Paranormal Activity,” also has more than 8,000 followers on Twitter . Again, this is impressive, but Fake Michael Bay still has more.

The real genius was in the way the film’s distributors let the fans decide in what cities the movie would be shown. As the New York Times reported last month , Paramount, after initially releasing the film in 13 college towns, then set up a page on Eventful , that invited moviegoers to “Demand it!” in their town. As more and more “demands” rolled in, the studio gradually widened the release.

Students of social psychology will recognize this approach as not just a good way to gauge viewer interest, but also as a way to influence it. People have a general desire to be consistent in their behavior , and by having someone make the small, initial commitment of clicking on a button makes that person more likely to follow through and go see the film.

Step 2: Don’t spend too much

The key to having an astronomical return on investment is to start off with a tiny principal. Director Peli shot the movie using unknown actors in his own home, which he renovated for the occasion. The whole thing cost $15,000, and he got some hardwood floors and a new stairwell out of it.

By comparison, if, say “Saw VI,” which cost $11 million to produce, were to make a comparable return on investment, it would have to gross almost $50 billion, which is about 25 times what “Titanic,” the highest-grossing film ever, brought in.

Step 3: Don’t factor in the marketing budget

I have a question about shoes at Payless and on the payless website?

Posted by justinwarner1986 on 30th October 2009

I saw a pair of shoes on the Payless website that I really like. The problem is I am a size 8 and on the website they only go up to size 7. I went to the Payless store in my local mall and they said they didn’t have them in stock at the store yet. How long does it usually take before they go on sale in the stores after they show up on the websites.

It depends on company to company and store to store.

Will britain ever recover from the shame of prince harry [the royal poltroon]?

Posted by justinwarner1986 on 30th October 2009

Hes just a spoiled brat with nothing else to do, people with senses will soon forget about him.

Tofus | May 19, 2007

Shame? The only shame was that he was allowed to join the Army in the first place.
Joe Kool | May 19, 2007

What shame - just because he is a royal does’nt mean he cant act like any other lad his age and its not his fault he cant go to war. (by the way I am not a royal family lover, Im not that keen on them really!)
brien123 | May 19, 2007

I don’t know honestly cause he is also putting people around him at risk not only him self as he is part of the royal family. This means that is platoon will be the most at risk
ntgref | May 19, 2007

dont think so
asimpleton | May 19, 2007

Yes We already have. By sending him to Iraq only makes him and his group of soldiers even more of a target. And that’s just asking for trouble!
Laurence B | May 19, 2007

with all the things Britain has done to be ashamed of, what relevance does this question have?
pirate_princess | May 19, 2007

How is he being a coward by having to submit to his superiors’ decision not to send him? There’s a difference between being in danger during a war and being specifically targetted. It places him and everyone with him in a lot more danger than the average soldier. That isn’t fair to either his unit or their family.
Sol | May 19, 2007

What Shame? Prince Harry is behaving the same as 90% of the young Adults and Teenagers in this Country!!!
Also compared to some of the previous Royals he is doing nothing they have not done.
Kevan M | May 19, 2007

I don’t think the shame is Prince Harry’s or the Countries, it is Tony Blair’s for putting us in this ridiculous position and needless war in the first place. That’s the place to lay blame!
bumbleboi | May 19, 2007

AND HOW DOES IT EFFECT US? AND WHAT SHAME ?
10-T3 | May 19, 2007

i don’t really see that there is any shame to recover from. he’s no worse than any other member of his family and he hasn’t done anything particularly awful.

with regards to his army career i just feel sorry for him - he clearly enjoys it but isn’t allowed to do the same things as everyone else - but it would be bloody stupid to send him to iraq as he would be a massive target and put others at risk.

it’s the MoD who’ve made pilocks of themselves. and yeah, it sucks that he is singled out, but his life isn’t being valued higher than anyone else’s, it’s because he would put other’s at risk that he can’t go.

and he’s ginger, poor bugger.
mermaid | May 19, 2007

Your question does not merit a serious answer.
Alfie333 | May 19, 2007

What ’shame’ are you referring to?

Regardless of your answer I still say that Princes Harry and William are the only two people in history who can do whatever they like and we, the devoted public, can take a step back and say ‘Well, yes but look at what they have been through.’

Listen to the Jimi Hendrix song ‘The Wind Cries Mary.’
God | May 19, 2007

They should have sent Harry in wearing his Nazi suit smoking a joint with six gold digging blondes hanging off him, he’d have been right at home!
EnglishTHFCfan | May 19, 2007

Its not the lads fault he wanted to go with his men, blame our yapping media.

WHAT SHAME?
I GATHER YOU’RE A YANK!
NEVER HAD A ROYAL FAMILY OF YOUR OWN!
JEALOUSY IS A CURSE LOL!!

What are the best professional dog grooming clippers?

Posted by justinwarner1986 on 29th October 2009

I am looking to buy a real pair of clippers for doing my dogs and to possibly get into professional grooming as well.
Experienced groomers, what are the best kind of clippers and any other tools (scissors, thinning shears, brushes, etc ) do you use and recommend on a daily basis.
I have bought some from Petsmart for like 60 bucks and then after 5-6 haircuts they are junk! Also they heat up and make lines in the dog’s coat.
Advice is appreciated!

Osters, Wahls and Andis are the best brands out there. A variety of blades of different lengths. A good pair of 8 1/2" straight shears, a pair of fine thinning shears, and possibly a pair of curved shears are good for a beginning groomer. A variety of slicker brushes, rakes, combs of different sizes, Mar coat king, furminator, and a good quality pair of nail trimmers can make up the rest of your kit. The thing that you need most is the knowledge of using this equipment in an efficient and humane manner.

Single Worker 1230 | Jul 22, 2009

I liked either the Oster A5 or the Andis that takes the same size blades.
bluebonnetgranny | Jul 22, 2009

WAHL clippers are good…
Due Nov. 21st! =) | Jul 22, 2009

Oster Clippers, they are what pro groomers and vets use. I have the "two speed golden" it is unstoppable. They’ll set you back about $200.00 with blades.

deepcow | Jul 22, 2009

Oster or Andis have great clippers.

As for brushes Cris Christianson has the best brushes and combs, you can get them at dog shows and I think online. You best bet for anything related to dog grooming is getting it at a dog show. I forgot what thinning shears we have but they are really good. Anything expensive is going to be good, anything really cheap will cause problems.

The stuff you need depends on what kind of dogs you have. If its terriers you need a very good stripping blade and the knowledge of stripping a coat.

A knowledge of show grooming will go a long way.

How do companies that make free newspapers, (like the Metro, London Lite and The London Paper) make money?

Posted by justinwarner1986 on 28th October 2009

Because obviously the newspaper is free and they need money to print the papers and pay their staff, so where does their income come from?

Companies pay them for advertising. As you can imagine because they have such a wide circulation, companies are prepared to pay a premium to advertise by these means

Sherren S | Feb 13, 2007

advertising i would imagine
Lisa H | Feb 13, 2007

They get their money from the adverts in their papers. That’s why there’s so many ads.
hypnoticcyst | Feb 13, 2007

gsladenyc | Feb 13, 2007

nothing is free ,we will be paying for it in some way.
adverts as said above.
reindeer | Feb 13, 2007

Advertising.

If you look on the front page you will see a distribution figure next to the letters "VFD"

This is "verified free distribution" and it a measure of how many papers are distributed for free so it gives advertises an idea of how many people they will reach and allows the paper producer to set thier advertising rates.

The cover price of a newspaper barely covers the distribution costs, let alone the manufacturing or publishers.
Michael H | Feb 13, 2007

I work for London Lite and how we pay for it is with Advertising. It works acording to page/half page/ quarter pages and sponsorships. There is alot of money in it.
Nicola V | Feb 13, 2007

Adverts - adverts - adverts.
