Infant ADHD or Other Problem Question?
My son is now 11 months old. Since the day he was born, he has been extremely hyperactive. From day one until about 8 months old, he took only two 20 min naps a day. Now he takes about two one hour naps a day. He has always woken up about 5 times a night and continues to do so. During the day, he never seems tired and goes all the time. He began crawling at 5 months and walking at 8 months. He now runs everywhere. He will go up to anyone and everything, loves attention, loves throwing things off tables onto the ground, enjoys climbing up anything, jumping off things, squirms, has restless legs when going to sleep, bangs his head on walls, and sometimes hits his head with his toys (he thinks it is funny). The boy never stops. However, about 15-20 times a day I catch him staring into space for about 10-15 seconds at a time. He can be running across the room and then stop like a deer in headlights and just stare at a spot on the wall. I can get in his face and clap or talk really loud, and it doesn’t faze him.

He is the happiest and most loving little boy I know. He loves to hug, kiss, smile, and squeal. He loves to ride piggy back around the house, and loves to be held (as long as we are showing him new things and asking him to help us with stuff, he LOVES learning). He will sit still for about 1-2 minutes at a time every now and then to watch TV or read a book.

He had one EEG for a seizure in Dec, but it was normal. He will have a 6 hour EEG on Monday to try to see if the blank stares are seizure related. In the meantime, I thought I would ask other parents if they have had similar issues, what the cause was, and how they are handling their child.
Emily - that is my son to a tee!!!
He has also been throwing full blown temper tantrums since he was 9 months old. He throws his head back and falls to the floor crying when he doesn’t get his way.

My son has sensory processing disorder. there are hyer-sensitive kids (who are sensitive to touch) and hypo-sensitive kids) crave touch and motions. My son bangs his head, plays rough and tumble, loves being swung up and around in the air. pushes furniture around the house, enjoys being squeezed when hugged, and as an infant enjoyed butt patting (pretty hard actually) or flipping his binky to get to sleep. You can ask you pediatrician to have an ocupational therapist to evaluate him. My son was about 11 months old when he was diagnosed.
Emily | Feb 04, 2010

I don’t know anything about the seizures, but I can assure you, that his sleeping patterns and his activity level are not all that unusual. Let the child run as much as he wants, and take him outdoors a lot, for a maximum of physical activity. He’ll mellow out eventually.
LGM | Feb 04, 2010

i dont know alot about seizures but other than that he sounds normal, happy little boy lol.his sleeping patterns are normal for his age and will regulate with time.my little girl is 2 and was always a very active and involved and loved rough and tumble and running around.but in doing so she is very advanced for her age.its good to let children run and play and if he is sociable and loving i dont think you have anything to worry about.

you cant have ADHD when you are 11 months. this sounds like autism

Lucas
Lucas (1986)

IMDB rating: 6.50

Plot: Lucas is a promising kid, bright, inquisitive, knowledgeable, industrious, but for a boy aged 14 those qualities don’t count for much socially, his daily life in high school is a brave but hopeless struggle against cruel ridicule (nicknamed ‘leukoplakia’) and abuse on account of his frail figure, ‘miniature’ size and athletic ineptitude, while any demonstration of precocious erudition is frowned upon by his ignorant, dumber peers and seniors, fortunately with one remarkable exception: the studly football team captain, generally known as Cappie, gallantly protects the ’shrimp’ and as soon as he gets to know Lucas appreciates his mind and courage, eager to learn from him. The arrival of an attractive new girl in his school and neighborhood proves a mixed blessing: Maggie becomes his best friend and companion, admiring his many talents, but inevitably she soon falls for Cappie the other way, so now his ‘big brother’ and protector seems little Lucas’s rival, however hard the hunk tries to stay friends…

yeah I really like those names! they are pretty. I don’t think that they are unoriginal names either. i haven’t met anyone with the name aiden or jade. I think that those are great names and you should keep them. who cares what other people think anyways. its what you like best that matters and i think you have picked wonderful names.
Chey | Feb 04, 2010

Yes, and Aiden and Jade sound nice when you say them together…the middle names are nice too.
Jade Alexandria… I guess I’m not as crazy about Sofia, but Aiden Lucas sounds really nice.
Haley | Feb 04, 2010

i don’t like how the name Aiden Lucas flows, they’re both cute names but just not together
try a 3 syllable name for the middle name like for example Aiden Solomon, Aiden Alexander,or Aiden Oliver
maybe also a 1 syllable middle name like Aiden Gage, Aiden Kai, Aiden Ray, Aiden Lee or Aiden Kade
for Lucas- Lucas Orion, Lucas Addison, Lucas Emerson, or Lucas Alexander
or- Lucas Kade, Lucas Ty, Lucas Jack or Lucas Nate

i like the 3 syllable middle names best

for girls the name sofia is cute but i HATE the name jade, just something about it i don’t like at all
Sofia Jade would be better
wompwompwomp | Feb 04, 2010

i like it but i like Jayden better and with with a brother Aiden would sound cte together. o and Sophia spelled this way.
but Aiden Lucas is prefect.

Captain Ron

Captain Ron
Captain Ron (1992)

IMDB rating: 5.00

Plot: A family in Chicago inherits the yacht formerly owned by Clark Gable. They decide to sail it from the island of Ste. Pomme de Terre to Miami, and they sail with the assistance of Captain Ron and their lives will never be the same again.

Actors: Russell Kurt,Short Martin,Salisbury Benjamin,Logrono Sunshine,Ramos Jorge Luis,Preston J.A.,Estela Raul,Butler Dan,McGowan Tom,Talkington C.M.,Adventure,Comedy,

Harry Potter 6 Question…?
Okay, so in the 6th movie "sneak peeks," they mention Ron trying out for Quidditch. In which BOOK does he actually try out?

At first, I thought I remembered it being the 6th one, but I’m trying to re-read it and when Harry gets promoted to team captain, Ron says, "You’ll be my captain…If you let me on the team again."

So…which one is it? Now, I’m thinking he tries out (and gets on the team) in the 5th book…but it’s in the 6th movie!

Also, in which book and movie is the Felix Felitius potion in? I think it’s the 6th…

Thanks!
Oh, I didn’t realize the director Quidditch out in the 5th! Isn’t that going to mess everything up?

Ron joins in the fifth one. Yates cut it from the fifth film though. Thank god he’s adding it back.

The potion is in the sixth one.

EDIT
No, it really won’t mess things up at all. Quidditch isn’t a critical thing needed for Deathly Hallows. What worries me a bit is how the mirror Sirius gave Harry was not included. Don’t know how they’ll work that one out…

emilie hope | Jul 13, 2009

I think that is all the 6th, been a while though ):
Taylor | Jul 13, 2009

The Felix Felitius potion is in the 6th book.

And I’m pretty sure Ron first tries out in the 5th book…although I may be wrong.
i less than 3 u | Jul 13, 2009

those are both from the 6th book. I just read it lol.
meagan | Jul 13, 2009

Yes in Half Blood Prince Ron does tryout for Quidditch, but in Order of the Pheonix he is the replacement Keeper and plays for the last few games, as does Ginny (she replaces Harry as Seeker when he cant play).

They didnt do the whole Quidditch thing in Order of the Pheonix.

Felix Felitius is in this movie/book: The Half Blood Prince
J A N E M C D A Y | Jul 13, 2009

Yeah Ron tries out in the 5th one. Remember "Weasley is our king, he always lets the quaffle in"? He was really bad remember? haha

That potion is in the 6th one too (:
JULZ | Jul 13, 2009

I always thought he made the team in the sixth book.
Maybe it’s a plot problem?

I’m not sure, but now I’m all curious and I’ll have to go look.

Felix is in this one. Remember Slughorn? I love him =]
Just Rowan | Jul 13, 2009

If I remember correctly, they wasn’t much Quidditch in the fifth book and movie because Umbridge banned Harry from ever playing again. But it’s certain in the sixth book and movie Ron tries out for the team and makes it. Remember "Weasley In Our King"?

Also, Felix is in the book as well.
I AM the Walrus! | Jul 13, 2009

Ron tries out for Keeper in book 5 because Wood is now gone. Angelina is the captain. Harry misses Ron’s tryouts becuase he had a detention with Umbridge where he had to write lines which carved letters in the back of his hand. Angelina freaked when she found out he was missing tryouts. Ron was the third best because the first two, one was commited to other clubs and the other was… can’t remember. That book was the one where the song Weasley is Our King was introduced. At the final match when Harry and Hermionie went with Hagrid to visit Grawp, they came back to find out Ron had pretty well won their match for them. (In case that was a bit confusing, that year Umbridge suspended Harry Fred and George from the team for attacking Malfoy.)
The Felix potion is in the sixth. Harry won it from Slughorn by "cheating" by using the Half Blood Princes book and instructions and he uses the potion to get the horcrux memory from Slughorn, and then gives it to Ron, Ginny and Hermionie to give them luck in the final battle.
Mahkra | Jul 13, 2009

ron tries out for the quidditch team in the 5th book. the felix felitius potion is in the 6th.
neufy | Jul 13, 2009

Ron tries out in the 5th one, I just got done reading that part! I think the Felix Felitius Potion is used in the 6th.

news ratings by me; your opinion(s) on this most astute of news rating(s)?
Animal Planet _—greatest news show on EARTH, second only to GOD.
Discovery Channel—One great news show on Earth.
Drudge Report, politico, google news, (secret sites which you and I know–telekinitic transfer): Great, but for self-evident reasons cannot beat the animal planet or discovery channel.
Fox News—-straddles the fence, but at the end of the day comes hard hard right…very rightest and nazi-like, but still reliable in some sense. Republican arm, exaggerates. assholes
The daily show—a fusion of entertainment and news, using irony to get at the core of issues much more seriously even though some people flip it off as simply a comedy channel. But these delusional twirps don’t realize what a news organization means. Obviously you cannot be 100% truthful all the time or cover things pertinent to the local area. Its about large abstract issues of supposed importance. John stewart gets at the heart of them through compare and contrastr techniques.
MSNBC- …..entertainment channel, show about people with beleifs in an altnernate universe where stalin rules the planet. It portrays a foray of interesting characters, such as hans landa, and keith olbermann as the prime shameless spineless parasites of the nazi left. For some reason, the show never gets old..weird. It is a paradoy
CNN….nothing really much to say here. There is no real emotional investment or strong emotion either way. A pathetic uninteresting organizations tha aspires to be edgy and argue with a delusional ‘other’ as ‘holding them honest.’ They are the people that do things in order to feel and look cool. There is nothing much to see here, except the occasional news tidbit about michael jackson’s lawyer, or toyota, or some equally relevent situation, rather than the entertainment we have come to expect. But it is so thoroughly boring and fact based, that it barely qualifies as a news organization.

Anyway, those are my raitings, I hope you will also agree with me and my facts.

Animal Planet–Really, Really Like (shows the greatness of God)
Discovery Channel– (have seen some very interesting things) some seems to promote theory as fact.
Drudge Report– Don’t Get
Fox News– Watch a Lot. They have courage to stand up to media establishment which have been really embarrassing themselves (irratating us) since falling in love with Community Organizer.
Daily Show–Haven’t Seen
MSNBC–Lost all credibility with us. Don’t Watch.
CNN–Turn on them occasionaly to see if they’ve regained sanity. Not yet, but hopeful.
Food Network–Don’t like to cook much, but this show really inspires me.
CCTV9 (English Chinese Programming) Fascinating History, beautiful scenery.
Almost All Shows–Have given whole new meaning to Boob Tube. Men still dress professionally but more and more news women (in U.S., not China) dress like street walkers. I keep wondering who is advising them to drop their necklines and raise their hemlines.

Who can add to this list of "ridiculous" laws? Which law is the funniest?
ILLINOIS - females must call their male counterparts "master" while on a date. (This does not apply to married couples.)
-According to state law, it is illegal to speak English. The officially recognized language is "American".
-A man with a mustache may not kiss a woman.
- It is against the law to use a slingshot unless your are a law enforcement officer.

-Chicago: Law forbids eating in a place that is on fire; It is illegal to give a dog whiskey; Kites may not be flown within the city limits; Spitting against the wind is forbidden
-One may not pee in his neighbor’s mouth
-There is a $1,000 dollar fine for beating rats with baseball bats.
-In Chicago it is also illegal to take a French poodle to the opera, and for women over 200 pounds to ride horses in shorts.

You may be convicted of a Class 4 felony offense, punishable by up to three years in state prison, for the crime of "eavesdropping" on your own conversation

-Dwarf-tossing," the strange practice of hurling dwarfs in padded suits, is outlawed in the bars of Springfield, Ill., because it’s dangerous and exploitative. The practice is apparently allowed elsewhere in town, with a special permit.

CHINA - You must be intelligent to go to college.

IOWA - Men cannot wink at females they are unacquainted with.

NEW YORK - $25 fine for flirting -prohibits men from turning around on any city street and looking "at a woman in that way". 2nd conviction for a crime of this magnitude calls for the violating male to wear horse-blinders. Men cannot be seen in public wearing pants/jacket that don’t match. You may only water your lawn if hose is held in hand.

CALIFORNIA - Sunshine is guaranteed to the masses. It’s a misdemeanor to shoot at any game from a moving vehicle, unless that target is a whale.
-No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 mph.
-Nobody is allowed to ride a bike in a pool.

OREGON - One may not test their physical endurance while driving a car on a highway. Illegal to place a container filled with human fecal matter on the side of any highway. It is illegal to whisper "dirty" things in your lover’s ear during sex. Ice-cream may not be eaten on Sunday’s. Ministers are forbidden to eat onion or garlic before delivering a sermon.

OKLAHOMA: You must first have permission before taking a bite out of someone’s hamburger. Whale fishing is illegal. People who make ugly faces at dogs may be fined. Molesting an automobile is illegal. Cars must be tethered/leashed outside of public buildings.

PENNSYLVANIA - Placing an alligator over 3 ft in a kitchen to frighten a family member is illegal.
In Ohio, it’s illegal to hold a piece of cheese in hand while talking to the opposite sex.

Virtually none of these laws actually exist. You do realize this, right?

The Internet is a great thing. One of its downsides, though, is that any knuckle-dragger can write their own site, and post it as "true", and someone will fall for it.

Richard

Chicago: You may be convicted of a Class 4 felony offense, punishable by up to three years in state prison, for the crime of "eavesdropping" on your own conversation

While I can’t comment on the exact penalties this one is basically true, but it’s not as crazy as it sounds.

Illinois is one of the states that requires everyone involved a conversation to know that it is being recorded. Since several other states have the same rule it’s nothing special about Chicago. While I personally feel it’s wrong it’s not loony.

California: Whaling is normally done from boats that are moving. Boats are vehicles. Thus an exemption for whales makes sense.
Loren Pechtel | Jan 24, 2010

If you’d like to see some real laws, Google Massachusetts blue laws. These are actual laws that are still on the books. Many are from Pilgrim days.

Examples:

All adult males must carry their fowling pieces (muskets/shotguns) while traveling to and from church on the Sabbath. (holdover from Puritan times when the risk of Indian attack was real.)

It is legal to graze your cattle on Boston Common. (Similar to Central Park in NYC.)

It also is still legal to hang pirates, and imprison criminals in "Stocks" on Boston Common. (Stocks are the wooden devices where your head and hands are placed in slots in the bottom section and the hinged top section is lowered to hold you in a bent over position.)

I need a lot of help with my story, can someone help me?
Okay I’m a writer, so I need to know a LOT of seemingly random stuff. Please just answer what ever you can, and help me out. Thank you so much for you’re support and constantly amazing answers! Oh, and by the way this is copyrighted.
So, here it goes.

Writing in General:
How do you guys get rid of writers block? Does it normally last a long time for you? Do you have any websites that talk about how to get rid of it, or just generally help you with your writing? Also, do you have any websites on names? Can anyone think of a good title that has to do with fantasy romance?

Character looks and charecter names:
My main female charector is going to be fourteen or fifteen, and she’s very tough, and tomboyish but she’s really pretty and not like a stuck up snob or anything. Should she have blonde beach waves and green eyes, or dark brown beach waves with hazel eyes? Keep in mind that she’s very petite, and all the guys like her. Should I name her Carter or Payton, or do you have another name that would suit her?
She’s going to be dating a really cute guy that she really loves (that’s a big part of the story) and so he’s going to have black hair and blue eyes, what should I name him? So far I like the names Sam or Mason, but I’m not really sure.
So do you like the couple names (girl’s name is first), Carter and Jason, Carter and Mason, Carter and Sam, Carter and Jake, Payton and Sam, Payton and Jake, Payton and Matt or do you have a suggustion?

World Places:
I need a place in the united states that is warm with beaches, but has snow in the mountains? Would California fit that discription, do they even HAVE mountains? What would be the best place in California? Is Sacremento nice? Is the housing in California expensive, normal or cheap? I need a place that’s cold in the winter with snow and warm in the summer, somewhere in the states, pretty far away from California, if possible. What are the states surrounding California? What are some names of beaches near Sacremento in California? Are their any big cities besides San Fransisco in California?

Clothing:
What do tomboy’s wear? can they still paint their nails like blue or something? What are some ideas of casual outfits to wear in California? When I’m writing am I allowed to use name brands like Hollister or Ambercrombie or is that illegal? Guys, what do you like girls to wear (And do not say underwear, or nothing, please)? and girls, what do you like guys to wear? What hairstyles can you do with long hair (for girls)? Should my main Charecter have blue or pink streaks in her hair?

Mythical Creatures:
Okay so in my story there are also a lot of mythical creatures, and I need some that are out of the ordinairy, like a nine-tailed fox. There is going to be a mermaid coloney, what should I call them? The Silvertides or the Silversongs? There is also going to be fairies, and a certain clan is going to use fire, what do you think of the name Firewings?

Thanks for helping me, every answer is appreciated.
B.Q,
Do you have any unusual girl and guy names for me? as many as you can think of / find please!

I have a blog you could start with.
jl | Feb 06, 2010

This is stuff you need to figure out for yourself. I’m writing two fantasy novels at the moment. One an adventure, the other modern day. I’ve been doing research on both for a year and a half.

The modern day fantasy involves a lot of research into geographical locations, I had to calculate distances that my character flies so I know how long it would take her to fly from one place to another at her speed. My room is full of maps, charts and I have folders full of research on my computer.

The adventure one is harder I think. I have to create a new world but I need to make sure the climates actually coinside with each other. Even simple things of having a river, where does the river flow to? Where is the water source? For the mythical creatures, I got ideas of Wikipedia, they have a list of creatures on there. I have a variety of creatures and races but there are no dwarves, elves, fairies etc.

Your character also sounds like a Mary Sue already (very pretty, all the guys like her, she’s petite). Who cares if her streaks are blue or pink or whatever. And yes, tomboys paint their nails. I’m a tomboy, I like painting my nails sometimes. They were purple last week.

I’m sorry I can’t realy help you but you need to do research yourself. And please make your main character believable.

Why I am becoming so emotional?
I’m 14 years old and since I was like 12 I started being SOO emotional!
When I was little, my mom used to get emotional; almost crying when she saw something sad. I thought it was stupid but when I saw Spider-Man 3 and Peter’s best friends die, that almost made me cry!!!! I was soo surprised b/c it has never happened to me. Since then almost every movie I see make me cry! My Sister’s Keeper made me cry like a baby and also The Lovely Bones!
LOL
even cartoon movies!
Is it b/c im in puberty or tthat’sthe way im bbecoming?

Emotional outbreaks can be caused by many things, including the hormone changes in puberty. It can also be caused by diet, for example a person who craves sugar and starches may have Hypoglycemia which can cause these emotions. Lastly, a person’s history can affect emotions as well. To make it more confusing, it can be a combination of any of these things as well.

simply puberty and mood swings

Welcome to womanhood. Your hormones will eventually come under control, somewhat, but I feel for you. Sometimes people muse about being able to start over at some point in life, but for me I wouldn’t go through puberty again for anything. Still, like your mother, there will continue to be times when tears will well up — what you need to be worried about is if your heart becomes so hard that such do not happen at all. The only thing worse than a stone hearted man is a stone hearted woman.

What are some good movies about Witchcraft?
Not the overly glamorized type like "Witches of Eastwick", more like "The Craft". Bored with TV, open for suggestions.

The Wicker Man (original movie, not the remake)
The Serpent and the Rainbow
Angel Heart
Cast a Deadly Spell

Merlin, excellent fantasy I think it’s on it’s third season now. Plays on CTV in Canada, not sure of the American equivalent

The Crucible, with Daniel Day-Lewis, is a popular witch movie.

Another witch movie I like is An American Haunting.

Most famously, there’s the Blair Witch Project, but the witch isn’t shown.

Sleepy Hollow (featured a witch)
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Merlin (features sorceress)
Chocolat (subtle witchcraft)
The Bell, Book and Candle
Stardust
Tamara (horror movie, if you like B horror and the craft, you might like it)
The Covenant (if you’re okay with male ‘warlocks’)
Escape to Witch Mountain (children’s movie, I always loved it-NOT the remake)
Skeleton Key

(would it be really lame if I said the Sabrina the Teenage Witch Movie? I’m a child of the 90’s and I loved Sabrina)

Rosemary’s Baby is deinitely the best one.

The Crucible is a decent film, but sorry people, it’s not about witchcraft at all. It’s about women being falsely accused of being witches. There is zero witchcraft in it.

Witches of Eastwick is not glamorized, it’s a farce/comedy.

The Craft is a glamorized teen movie. And it’s shit!
Cherry2000 | Nov 29, 2009

What the other people listed The Craft, Practical Magic, etc.

Don’t forget this one: Mists of Avalon (this made for TV program is a great one based on the "Old Religion" and the Priestesses, the use of magick, herb crafting, etc.) and also King Arthur, Camelot, etc.

Know anyone with a grow your own mushrooms at home kit?
I got this kit for Christmas, grow your own mushrooms at home. It is from Plow and Hearth. I don’t know how to start the kit. You add water to the soil, but do you grow the mushrooms in the box? Or do you take all the "dirt" out and grow them somewhere else? I’ve contacted the company, but have not heard back from them yet. Any experience with this thing?

if there are no directions that tell you what to do, call a seed company or try to e-mail or call P&H again. good luck
